..

In class we are learning about the civil war and south africa. We are learning about the reconstruction plans for the Confederacy and South africa. Both of them are different in their own way but still the same in others. also we are discussing the rights of the people during the reconstruction of both. Some people who didn't have rights had rights when people who had rights didn't after the war.

Today in our society we went to war not to long ago. We went to war with Iraq for certain reasons to keep our country safe from terrorists. After the U.S went to war with iraq we began to rebuild it. Just as the U.S did during the civil war we reconstructed enemy territory while so many people in that country hate the U.S. We may be taking it easy on the people that destroyed the twin towers just as we let the Confederate people join the union again by pardoning them of everything they had done.

During the reconstruction period blacks gained the right to vote but white confederates didn't. Now people in the U.S who are citizens can vote, as long as they are not convicts. All people in the convicts have to committ a felony to not be allowed to vote. Before the war only white men were allowed to vote. After the war all men were allowed to vote except for the white confederates.

Until the 19th amendment women could not vote. Since then women have gained the right to vote and now all citizens of the U.S except people who have committed a felony can. When this happened women now started serving on juries because it was there duty. (haha I said duty) Women play a big part in society now, they have jobs that hold a great signifigance. they have power to do what they want now.

the people in the south are racist due to the slavery. whites and blacks were segregated for the next few years. now people are still racist but they dont show it as much. blacks and whites have integrated and alot are friends. When they go to school they play on sports teams, join clubs and work as a group to do the best they can.

civil war

So far in class we have learned about the civil war. This war is the most violent war the U.S. has been in. Huge amounts of soldiers were lost during this war. A total of 625,000 soldiers were lost in the North and South combined. The war ended at the Appomattox Court House, where General Lee signed General Grant's treaty. This basically ended the war.

The war started over a pleathera of reasons. The North and South had different views on how each state would be represented. The South wanted to include slaves in their population but not view them as people. This was the reason for the 3/5 clause, making this a big issue in the constitution. Since the South did not want to follow the laws of the Union they had tariffs put on trade goods and trade routes cut off. Slavery was a mojor issue too, the south wanted slaves to produce crops for money during the war but the north wanted to end slavery in the rebellious states. Abolitionists were a reason the South went into war.

The north was alot stronger statistically but the south was a well trained machine. The north was stronger in population, manufacturing, weapons, transportation, communication, and money. The south was stronger in farm acreage, strategy, training, passion, and generals. The Union had the troops and weapons to destroy the Confederacy, but they had no strategy. The south had less men lost battle beacause they were on defense durring the whole war until Antietam. Their attempt failed and they could never regain composure.

The north and south came out of this war with different effects. The north won the war. The south had to give up their slaves, and most of the crops were destroyed when Sherman stormed through destroying everything that they could. The south also had to join the union agian, they were no longer their own country. The south suffered economically, the cash crops such as cotton and tobacco are not producing as much money. The south was going bankrupt, everyone was in debt. The northern people were moving south and taking advantage of the land owners in debt, planting crops and making money.

The north and south were in a war that really shouldn't have happened. The north was doing what is morally right, every person has rights as a human. The south wanted to keep slaves and gain more and more money. The U.S. could have avoided this if everyone could agree, but instead they argue and go into the most violent war in american history. The north punished the south by rubbing in the fact that they won and were not in debt. America is now a whole as a country and not divided because of slavery thanks to the Emancipation Proclamation.
