So far in class we have learned about the civil war. This war is the most violent war the U.S. has been in. Huge amounts of soldiers were lost during this war. A total of 625,000 soldiers were lost in the North and South combined. The war ended at the Appomattox Court House, where General Lee signed General Grant's treaty. This basically ended the war.
The war started over a pleathera of reasons. The North and South had different views on how each state would be represented. The South wanted to include slaves in their population but not view them as people. This was the reason for the 3/5 clause, making this a big issue in the constitution. Since the South did not want to follow the laws of the Union they had tariffs put on trade goods and trade routes cut off. Slavery was a mojor issue too, the south wanted slaves to produce crops for money during the war but the north wanted to end slavery in the rebellious states. Abolitionists were a reason the South went into war.
The north was alot stronger statistically but the south was a well trained machine. The north was stronger in population, manufacturing, weapons, transportation, communication, and money. The south was stronger in farm acreage, strategy, training, passion, and generals. The Union had the troops and weapons to destroy the Confederacy, but they had no strategy. The south had less men lost battle beacause they were on defense durring the whole war until Antietam. Their attempt failed and they could never regain composure.
The north and south came out of this war with different effects. The north won the war. The south had to give up their slaves, and most of the crops were destroyed when Sherman stormed through destroying everything that they could. The south also had to join the union agian, they were no longer their own country. The south suffered economically, the cash crops such as cotton and tobacco are not producing as much money. The south was going bankrupt, everyone was in debt. The northern people were moving south and taking advantage of the land owners in debt, planting crops and making money.
The north and south were in a war that really shouldn't have happened. The north was doing what is morally right, every person has rights as a human. The south wanted to keep slaves and gain more and more money. The U.S. could have avoided this if everyone could agree, but instead they argue and go into the most violent war in american history. The north punished the south by rubbing in the fact that they won and were not in debt. America is now a whole as a country and not divided because of slavery thanks to the Emancipation Proclamation.

i really learned a lot of information about the civil war in your blog. the main things i learned from your blog was the advantages and disadvantages of both north and south. overall i think your blog was real good!
your blog was well summarize of what learned about the civil war in class. just reading your blog i learned something.i learned some of the disadvanges and advanges. another thing is i noticed that a lot of soldiers from both sides were killed. overall your blog was real good
Dude, nice blog! This was basically a summary of everything we've learned in class. I really liked when you mentioned examples of how the South angered the North and had tarriffs placed on their trade goods. This blog really sums it up. Nice job! Keep it up.
This was a really good blog. I was looking at my notes earlier, and it sums up everything pretty well. You hit all the main points, and explained the reasons of why everything happened in the war. You mentioned a lot of the major turning points, and clearly described the advantages, and disadvantages of the north and south. I could easily use this to form an outline.
I agree with the comments posted above. As a result I invite and encourage you to go beyond your notes and to infuse your blog with more of your own opinions and conclusions about what you have learned. Toward the end of your blog, you make the argument that the North was doing what was morally correct. I would like to see you develop that argument more fully. Compare the moral differences between the North and SOuth. Dissect the arguments on each side.
I agree, with Mrs.Garber. I would be more interested in to what you have to say, other than a generalized summary. Overall, the summary was great. You showed great examples. I disagree on the fact that the Emancipation Proclamation really did anything though.
hey your blog explained about the differences between the North and South and the consequences of the war on both sides. It is really nice to hear your opinion of the civil war. Nice job!
Wow, your blog was great! I mean you had all the great turning points and the main reasons why the civil war started in the first place. Before Ms.Garber, all I knew was that it was all about slavery. One thing that i would have been interested in reading was the reasoning of the 3/5 clause! Seriously nice blog, I enjoyed the diction though especially
It sounded like you had a lot of different directions for this blog. I really wanted to hear about the views the North had for their states represented. Coming up with an agreement for slaves and how each state would be represented does seem like something that could be solved with the right leadership. Unfortunately people had to be difficult and want different things. You were good at comparing each side's causes for fighting. Good!
i really like how you examples to tell me about he civil war. ever since i was in the 5th grade i knew alittle about the civil war and now i actually got to understand more about wat happen and i never knew that the southeren states actually secceed and started a war and was the bloodiest battle ever and ended in four years
dude lets start this comment off wit the fact your a quieer and i hate doing theses things, lol jk bout the doing these things parts but your thing was very informational and nice detail with the disadvanges and advanges the opinion is better i think but over all a good blog
Hey Peacock, i liked reading your blog. You gave a couple interesting points about turning points in the civil war. I'm not gonna say anything bad about your blog like how it sounded similar to our notes or how you really didn't give your own point of view or anything like that, like the other people said lol. I think it was an overall good blog. Good job!
i cant believe that 625,000 soldiers lost their lives fighting in the Civil War. What is the most shocking to me is the fact the north that everything better then the south and yet the south stayed in the battle as long as they did. I still think that Sherman should not of destroyed all of the south crops because that was killing the economy at the time. I hope that America has learned from what happened in the past, and makes shore it doesnt happen again.
Wow peacock great blog. Lots and lots of information to read through. I learned about two to three new things just from reading your blog. Your breakdown of the north and during the Civil War was great. I didn't know how extensive the damage from the Civil War was but your blog gave all the information necessary to learn about the damage
